Singing Dunes
The Singing Dune (Aygaiqum) rises about 150 m from the desert floor of Altyn-Emel National Park, between the Ili River and the Aktau mountains. In dry, windy weather the shifting sand produces a deep, organ-like hum.
A long but unforgettable private day across empty steppe and the wide Ili valley, with a climb up the dune ridge for huge views.

Good to know
Will the dune actually sing?
Only in dry, breezy weather — the sound is never guaranteed, but the dune and the views are worth it regardless.
Can it be combined with the Aktau mountains?
Yes — the colorful Aktau and Katutau mountains are deeper in the park. See our Treasures of Altyn-Emel tour.
