How Much Does a Trip to Almaty Cost? Tours, Packages and Budget

2 October 2026 6 min read

Almaty is one of the better-value destinations in the region, but the budget varies a lot depending on how you travel. Flights and hotels depend on your dates and where you fly from; what we can speak to precisely is the part that usually decides whether a trip feels rushed or memorable — getting out to the canyons, lakes and mountains.

What day tours cost

Group tours are priced per person and are the cheapest way to see the region. Our group day trips start from 8,990 ₸ per person, with most full-day routes to Charyn, Kolsai and Kaindy or the Assy Plateau falling in the low-to-mid teens of thousands of tenge. Overnight trips, such as camping on the Assy Plateau or two days in Altyn-Emel, cost more because they cover two days and, in some cases, accommodation and meals.

Private tours are priced per vehicle rather than per person. That makes them expensive for a solo traveler but surprisingly good value for families and groups: the price for 4–6 people is only somewhat higher than for 1–3, so the cost per head drops quickly. Current prices by group size are listed on our private tours page.

What drives the total budget

  • Group vs private — the single biggest factor in tour spending.
  • How many long trips you take — each canyon or lake trip is a full day.
  • Season — summer is the busiest period for flights and hotels.
  • Extras on the day — cable cars at Shymbulak and Kok-Tobe, horse or boat rental at the lakes, food.

Is Almaty expensive?

Compared with Western Europe or the Gulf, day-to-day costs are moderate: public transport and ride-hailing are cheap, and eating out is good value outside the most fashionable restaurants. Cards and QR payments work almost everywhere in the city, but keep some cash for national park fees and rentals outside town.

Building your own Almaty tour package

Many travelers look for a ready-made “Almaty tour package”. We do not sell flights or hotels — but we build the part of the trip that happens on the ground, around your dates and wherever you are staying. A typical combination looks like this:

  • 3–4 days: city and Shymbulak, Charyn Canyon, and the Kolsai and Kaindy lakes.
  • 5 days: add Big Almaty Lake or Issyk Lake, plus the Assy Plateau in summer.
  • 7 days: add two days in Altyn-Emel or a night of camping on the Assy Plateau.

This works well for travelers from India and the Gulf, who often arrive on direct flights for a short stay and want the itinerary planned in advance. Send us your arrival and departure dates and group size on WhatsApp, and we will put together a day-by-day plan with prices for each tour.

Ways to save

  • Choose group departures for the long trips and keep private tours for the days where timing matters most.
  • Travel in a group of four or more if you go private — the per-person price falls sharply.
  • Avoid stacking long drives back to back; you will enjoy each trip more and waste less.
